Gum Contouring Surgery at Yonsei Uline Dental Clinic Gangnam Seoul

If your gums rest too low or too high on your teeth and you are unhappy with your smile, you may be a candidate for gum contouring surgery. Also known as gum reshaping or tissue sculpting, this cosmetic dental procedure can even out an uneven gum line and give you a smile you can be proud of. While this is more often a cosmetic surgery, it is also done to fight periodontal disease. Yonsei Uline Dental Clinic take a look at what gum contouring is and whether it might be right for you.

Is it a necessary surgery?

Gum contouring alone is considered a cosmetic procedure. Most of the time it is not medically necessary. Most people have their gums reshaped to improve the appearance of their smile. However, some people undergo this surgery as part of other necessary periodontal procedures, such as crown lengthening, pocket reduction, and regenerative procedures. Receding gums leave the teeth exposed and vulnerable, while the occurrence of pockets between the teeth provide an ideal location for bacteria to accumulate. Periodontal gum reshaping removes these and seals the tissue to prevent future problems. Gum reshaping procedures not considered cosmetic also include adding gum tissue when recession has occurred and trimming overgrown tissue that has covered part of the tooth crown.

How is the surgery done?

Gum reshaping is performed in the Yonsei Uline Dental Clinic. Currently, dentists use scalpels, lasers, and radiosurgery to perform the gum contouring procedure. The laser is used to re-contour and then seal the tissue to create the ideal shape and prevent ongoing bleeding. The dentist can also use the laser to eradicate hollows that trap bacteria to prevent future infections. Ask your dentist which technique is the most suitable for your situation.

Before surgery, your provider should go over what he or she will be doing during the procedure. Often, dentists will use a pen and draw a line to mark the new gum line. That way, you can see exactly how much gum will be removed or how the gum line will be reshaped.  A local anesthetic may be applied to numb the area. Sometimes, bone at the front of the tooth’s root must also be removed during gum contouring to achieve the best long-term results.

What is braces, where can I get the orthodontic treatment in Gangnam_Yonsei Uline Dental Clinic

 What Are Braces?

Braces are dental tools that help correct problems with your teeth, like crowding, crooked teeth, or teeth that are out of alignment. Many people get braces when they’re teenagers, but adults get them too. As you wear them, braces slowly straighten and align your teeth so you have a normal bite. Some people get braces to adjust their smile.

If you have crooked teeth and/or a misaligned bite (an underbite or overbite), there are a variety of treatments that can help straighten teeth, including braces and retainers, custom-made, removable or fixed tools that cover the outside of your teeth and help keep them in position. Learn more about how to tell if you have an overbite.

Many general dentists do basic alignment and treat other tooth problems, but orthodontists specialize in correcting issues with your teeth. An orthodontist has 2 to 3 years of advanced orthodontic education and training beyond dental school. They specialize in straightening teeth, correcting misaligned bites, and jaw problems.

The dentist or orthodontist you choose will ask questions about your health, do a clinical exam, take a digital scan of your teeth, take photos of your face and teeth, and order X-rays of the mouth and head. They’ll come up with a treatment plan based on this information.

Starting orthodontic treatment during the current pandemic

As I stated, there has never been a better time to be an orthodontic patient, even during the current pandemic. Most states are resuming elective medical and dental procedures, and orthodontic offices are beginning to see patients once again.

Understandably, the public may have concerns about coming in to orthodontic offices and certainly the elderly and those with underlying medical conditions should be cautious. Fortunately, dentistry, including the specialty of orthodontics, has always had very high standards in sterilization, infection control and environmental disinfection with an excellent record in preventing the transmission of bacterial and viral diseases in our offices. Providing a safe environment for our patients and our staff is our profession’s highest priority.

What Is Gum Contouring and Why Is It Done? Can I get it at Gangnam Seoul

Everyone’s gum lines are different. Some are high, some are low, some are in between. Some may even be uneven. If you feel self-conscious about your gum line, there are ways to change it. Gum contouring, also known as gingival sculpting or gingivoplasty, is one of the options that can help reshape your gum line.

In some cases, your dentist may even suggest it, especially if you have issues with your gums that affect your oral health. But, what exactly does it involve?

What is gum contouring?

Gum contouring is a procedure, done by a dental specialist, that reshapes or resculpts your gum line. The process of gum contouring involves cutting away or removing excess gum tissue around your teeth. If you have gum recession, the procedure involves restoring gum tissue. In many cases, gum contouring is an elective procedure. This means that it isn’t medically necessary. Instead, it’s done to improve the look of the gums, teeth, or smile. But there may be times when your dentist recommends gum contouring for oral health reasons.

What does gum contouring involve?

The length of the procedure will vary depending on the extent of the contouring and the amount of resculpting that’s needed. Generally, gum contouring takes about 1 to 2 hours.

Before the doctor starts, you’ll receive local anesthesia to numb the gum area. During the procedure, the doctor will use a soft tissue laser or scalpel to remove excess gum tissue and resculpt the gumline to expose more of the tooth. Sutures may be used to hold the gum tissue in place.

If your gums recede and the procedure involves adding gum tissue, your dentist will remove tissue from another part of your mouth, maybe your palate. Surgery secures this tissue around your teeth to lengthen and restructure your gum line.

There is the reason why Yonsei U-line Dental Clinic can be stay in the same spot more than 15 years!

The result of the dental treatment proves it!
